Out of the groove

A couple days ago, we brought you a list of what we considered the best wrestling themes in existence.  However, with every up, there's a down, and where wrestling themes are concerned, there are LOTS of downs.  In the effort to be balanced, we're bringing you today the Bottom 8 theme songs.

The rules for consideration are the same - it has to be a song written to be an entrance theme.  It also has to be a song, which means Diesel's theme is out, because it pretty much is an entrance sound effect.  Right to Censor is out as well (looks like the Laugh Twins are the ones with the right to censor now!)

They also will be WWF/E themes, which narrows down the pool and makes it easier for us, but does preclude things like this gem.  We encourage you to listen to that, because your life will never be the same...it will be worse.

So, cue the pathetic drum roll, because here's your Bottom 8 theme songs of all time (as chosen by us!)

8. Chris Jericho - "Don't You Wish You Were Me?"

You may think this is breaking the first rule, because technically this was on the Fozzy album first, but since we made the list, this one is getting in.  It's Jericho's band, so we think we have a pass on this one.  The song itself is forgettable, but what really made this terrible is that he chose this over his truly great theme (which made #6 on our first list).  Also, anytime your theme song is altered to sell YJ Stinger, it's got serious stink on it.

7. X-Pac

"Quick, tell me something about X-Pac!"

"Uh, he was in D-X, right?"

Banking off his one recognizable plus, the original (and pretty kick-ass) Degeneration X theme was remixed for one Sean Waltman.  It was slowed down, a poor rap placed over the beat, and preceded with the command to "make some noise," which no one in the crowd heeded.  If there's one way to get someone to dislike you, it's to remind them of cool things you used to do.

6. Billy Gunn - "Ass Man"

Allow us to give you the first two lyrics of this song (aside from recognizing the fact that Billy Gunn is, in fact, an ass man)

I love to love 'em, I love to kick 'em, I love to shove 'em, I love to stick 'em

Love to flaunt 'em, I love to watch 'em, I love to pick 'em, and I'm gonna kick 'em

We should remind you that he's talking about ass here.  Just in case you missed it, he'll tell you twice that he's going to kick ass, but not before he also makes it clear he will stick and pick ass as well.  And later on he tells us the best is when you "sneak up from behind."  Billy and Chuck make a whole lot more sense now.

5. Gregory Helms

A problem some wrestlers have is a generic theme.  It's not necessarily bad; it just doesn't stand out in anyway from some other jobber on the roster.  Mr. Helms had that problem, because his theme wasn't all that bad, it was just "meh."  So to solve this (and ensure a huge pop), his theme was modified so you'd no for sure you were about to witness the genius of Gregory Helms.  How did they accomplish this?  By having him say "Gregory Helms!" at the beginning.  Good plan.

4. McMahon's Million Dollar Mania

Alright, so this wasn't actually a wrestler, but this concept was so ridiculous it had to make it in.  Right before he was crushed by the Raw set, Mr. McMahon spent a couple weeks giving away cash on the air.  Rather than simply come out to his own theme (which made it onto the other list as well at #5), McMahon thought he should start the segment out with a special theme for "da monaaay" itself.  Whichever Mozart came up with Gregory Helms's theme got some extra work that day, and some singer was paid to come and repeat the word "money" into a mic fifty times.

3. Any Diva theme

We're highlighting Torrie's theme here, but this applies to pretty much every Diva other than perhaps Lita.  The diva's theme serves one purpose - background noise while we oogle at her Titantron video or her prance down the ramp.  But they all share some common messages: this girl is hot; she likes to have fun; she might possibly want to do something nasty with you; and everyone likes to look at her.

2. The Mountie

This just sounds like a cartoon theme.  How this was ever supposed to create excitement for the Mountie is beyond us, because all this makes us want is some Fruity Pebbles.  In case you were curious, he's handsome, and brave, and strong.  Well, buddy, if your theme song has to inform us of that, it's probably nowhere near the truth.

1. Rob Conway

Immediately when we thought of this list, we knew what would occupy the number one spot.  Catapulting itself into the "so bad, it's good' territory, Conway's theme when he broke off from La Resistance is a classic case of missing the mark.  Rob Conway himself has said he hated it.  With it's ragtime-ish piano and absolutely ridiculous lyrics and vocals, Conway let the audience know that it was time to cast their gaze upon his wonderment, because he's been around the world and been with many, many girls.  The sad thing is, this theme is main reason both of the Laugh Twins are probably the biggest Con-fans you'll ever meet.

LOLZ SRSLY??

There's a school of thought that you don't blow your load early, because then you won't have anything left later. The Spiderman game on Nintendo64/Playstation did this, as its roster of villains included Venom, Dr Octopus, Carnage, The Lizard, Rhino, and Mysterio, with guest appearances from the likes of Marvel A-Listers Daredevil, Punisher, and Captain America. Activision, clearly thinking there would never be a sequel, went for the most balls to the wall Spiderman game ever. Of course it sold great, so a sequel was made. What did that game have? Hammerhead, Beetle, an out of control bi-plane, and Electro as the main villain.

Which brings us to a relevant wrestling topic: The WWE Hall of Fame. The ceremony is coming up soon and it's always nice to honor the past. Except when it's not. It's kind of a joke, isn't it? And not because it's a hall for professional wrestling. Just the sheer amount of inductees in it. Here's a complete list. In 2004, the first year the Hall of Fame was brought back after an eight year hiatus, there were eleven inductees. Subsequent years have leveled off at seven, but let's compare that to major sports. The baseball hall of fame averages out to about four inductees a year, and the hockey hall of fame caps the induction off at four players a year. But these are organizations with a hundred years of history and a much larger talent pool to pick their legendary performers from. Four players out of the hundreds in the big leagues during a player's tenure is a far way off from seven personalities from realistically, two hundred people at most signed under a national wrestling contract. So although everyone enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame is certainly hall worthy (this year's class of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ricky Steamboat, and The Funks are all no brainers), the overloading is leaving the WWE scrambling to fill their Hall of Fame undercard.

Yes, the rumors are true. Koko B. Ware is going to be in the hall of fame.

Above: A Laugh Twin on Earth 49 (Parrot World)

He of Quizno's ticket sales will be joining the sacred (?) fraternity populated by the likes of Nature Boy Ric Flair, Nature Boy Buddy Rogers, and American Dream Dusty Rhodes. And we're not crapping on Koko because he wore ugly suspenders or carried a parrot to the ring that will surely outlive him.

(Side note: Is the reason the Hall of Fame so overpopulated due to wrestler mortality rates? Does Vince want to guarantee an attendance from these men, so he prematurely books them ASAP?)

Seriously though, we're not crapping on Koko. He is a perfectly fine mid-carder. He was good in the ring, had a good song on the 1987 WWF album, but he's not legendary. He's not worthy of the fame. Let's look at the accomplishments of his fellow classmates:

  • Stone Cold Steve Austin- Six time WWF World Champion, two time WWF Intercontinental Champion, 1996 King of the Ring, three time Royal Rumble winner, two time WCW US Champion, sold SO much merchandise.
  • Ricky Steamboat- one time NWA World Champion, four time NWA US champion, one time WWF Intercontinental Champion.
  • Funks- combined two time NWA World Champions, one time WWF tag team champions, two time ECW champions, and won dozens of tag titles together.
  • Koko B. Ware- Held several regional NWA titles.

Now, like we said. Holding several regional NWA titles is a nice career. But this isn't in the same realm. It just isn't. Still, it's not the Birdman's fault. He was bestowed with this honor and accepted it with grace. We can't all have the integrity of Mr. T. But since the WWE Hall of Fame inducted so many people so early what we're stuck with is Koko B Ware being the midcarder at a legitmate legends night. Thus, we here at LOL, Wresslin' are calling it. R U READY TO DOWN SOME SMACK??? vol. 19

Matt and Adam take the brand extension very seriously. They each only identify with one brand and actively follow it. Matt bleeds Raw red and Adam has Smackdown blue coursing through his veins. Being soldiers in the ongoing war for brand supremacy has charged both of them up enough to provide handy recaps of the previous week's show. That way, no new viewers will feel lost. Thus, every Monday and Friday, we here at LOL, Wresslin' will offer you a refresher. Hey, it's the least we can do.

Did you know that No Way Out is this weekend? Didn't we just have the Royal Rumble like..three weeks ago? Man oh man, there are way too many of these. Well, let's recap last week's Smackdown so you can prepare for tonight's go home episode of Friday Night Smackdown!

Honestly? Not a lot happened. For once I'm going to give the edge (no pun intended) to Raw. Wait a second! What am I saying? Raw has a middle aged man beating up their main event hill all because his last name is McMahon! How can that show be remotely entertaining!?

Still, Smackdown is kind of cruise control right now, since they only have one match on the PPV card this weekend. Sure, there are other things going on, like Matt Hardy attacking his brother Jeff...

Now, obviously we're all upset about this. But no person is more upset then an old Hardy buddy, Hurricane Helms! "Why Matt, why?" were the thoughts racing through his head. So, the former Seal of Awesomeness (and I stress former) winner calls out the elder Hardy to confront him on his actions. And what does Matt do in response? Why he rests his nuts on Helms's chin!

Turns out Brokeback Mountain is in North Carolina. Yes, I know what year this is.

In other hotness, Michelle McCool returned to Smackdown to beat up someone named Eve? Eve once betrayed Adam, so clearly I'm pulling for Michelle to tear it up (and/or kick some butt!)

I wasn't disappointed.

Well, that's not true. I mostly just love the caption the WWE used for the following photo. "Michelle McCool smuggly looks out at the WWE Universe."

I can think of a word that starts with an F and rhymes with "smuggly."

And finally, about that one match at NWO. Well it's a six man elimination chamber, so at least it'll tear the house down. And we actually have good dudes wrestling in it, rather then buttholes like Kofi Kingston and Mike Knox (OMG!!). If you remember from last week, Undertaker, Big Show, and HHH all qualified for the chamber, taking on the champion Edge. There's two spots left! Who will fill them?

Well we've got an answer on one of them! There was a 15-man battle royal, with the winner qualifying.

No point going into the losers, but the final four were the WWE Tag Champs, Carlito and Primo, R-Truth (get rowdy!), and the Russian guy. Three faces and one heel, this could prove to be difficult.

Race war!!!

Oh my...could we be in for an up-

Really?

Whites win! Whites win again!

REALLY?

Anyway, five spots down, one to go. I suppose there will be one last qualifying match again tonight-

What? You're interrupting me.

Really? Just like that? We haven't seem him since the Royal Rumble where you screwed him over by making his title match No DQ, and now you just put him in the main event title match? This show makes no sense.

R U READY TO DOWN SOME SMACK??? THE ADAM IS BACK!

100 POSTS!!! SUCK IT RAW!!

I can't express how happy I am to devote my Friday nights to the superior brand in sports entertainment, Friday Night Smackdown! I'm sorry for leaving you baby, please take me back.

The most regal of all events is fast approaching, so the Knights of the Table Smack are gearing up! And why wouldn't they? The winner of the Royal Rumble main events the grand daddy of them all, Wrestlemania! Although luck is certainly a major component in winning, it can not be overstated how much talent and determination factor into winning. That's why HHH is Smackdown's best option to win the Rumble. And nothing, and I mean nothing, is going to get in his way.

Except for GM Vickie Guerrero.

Remember that little tiff about some nude photos HHH found on eBay? Me neither. It was two weeks ago! Well Ms. Guerrero didn't, and she's out to make HHH pay! And not in monetary ways like you do on eBay, but in a convoluted wrestling way. Yes, HHH's Royal Rumble slot is on the line as MVP must take on the Big Show in a last man standing match. MVP loses (as he's prone to do) and The 3H Club is out of the Double R!

One wrestler who will not be at the Royal Rumble is Victoria. She had her very last match ever last Friday. Victoria is the last hold over of the glory days of women's wrestling, so let's pay our respects and cheer her on for her last match. Who's her opponent?

OMG!!! Michelle McC(.)(.)l!!!!

Crap. Sorry Victoria, but you drew the short straw.

How can I get a seat at this buffet tray?

Engrish and LOL's, plus a well known internet meme? God I'm clever.

Anyway, back to HHH's problem. As we all know, MVP has been on a bit of losing streak for the last five months or so. Maybe he shouldn't have burned those lower case T's in front of random houses. So it's all but assured that the 500 pound Big Show will destroy him in a last man standing match. Right? Right?

Hey kids, see if you can find the hidden pun in this LOL.

Well not if HHH has anything to say about it. It's a last man standing match. There are no rules! Nice way to exploit that loop hole, Hunter. This must be why they call you "The Cerebral Assassin!"

Hey Paul Wight! You're a nasty bastard and your mama said so!

Finally, we need to hype up our title match at the Royal Rumble. Jeff Hardy was slated to be a guest on the hit talk show segment, The Cutting Edge, hosted none other then his opponent at the Rumble, Edge! True, he's had a few "incidents" lately, but he's safely in the arena! Nothing will go wrong.

Goldberg. Goldberg. Goldberg.

Goldberg?

OOOO...that's gotta hurt! But you know what hurts the most? That gray camo shirt Hurricane Helms is wearing! It hurts my eyes and taste (wocka wocka!) Seriously dude, you're pushing it.

Last show before the Rumble! Tune in tonight, 8/7c on MyNetwork TV!

OH BABY, I like it RAW! Exxxtreme Adam Makeover Edition

For a theme song to accompany this post, please press play and enjoy...

On January 1st we here at LOL, Wresslin' instituted the LOL, Wresslin' Brand Outreach Program (LWBOP). However, it does not extend only to TNA, YYCMT, or any other feds. No it also exists here in the WWE! So this week, I Adam, the champion of all things Smackdown, am recapping last week's Monday Night Raw. I watched the show with a clear head and I am here to fairly and accurately assess the Monday brand. And here.....we......GO:

The Monday Night Raw roster blew through New Orleans like a Scorpions' song!

Your name has nothing to do with your roster status.

There's one thing I noticed about Raw in relation to Smackdown. That is that Raw is a lot more talky (Monday Night Blah, I say). There's not a lot of wrestling. Take for instance the first segment. Randy Orton and Chris Jericho come out and complain about losing the previous weeks fatal fourway. You mean to tell me they waited a whole week to voice their problems? And they do so by throwing a hissy fit and disrupting the show! What do you expect to happen boys? They'll rebook the entire show just for you? Of course not. Good job by Stephanie McMahon not giving into to terrorist demands. She's a solid GM. Of course, she learned how to be so smart as GM of Smackdown first. I'm just sayin'.

Seriously though, Orton and Jericho were just standing in the ring! They were totally holding up our first match, which was an inter-gender tag match! Hot power couple Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix took on Melina and....Goldust? Seriously? That guy is still around?

Goldust's finisher: The Burp Pat.

Melina and Goldust picked up the win because they had to go to a commercial for beef jerky and needed to wrap things up. What's odd though is that some woman came out of the crowd and attacked Melina.

Watch the hands there, pal.

Apparently this isn't an isolated incident. What kind of lawlessness is Monday Night Raw?

And a "Yo-yo" to you, good sir.

Still, as you can clearly see, it ain't no thang. Melina is celebrating her allowing Goldust to do all the work and win the match for her. That's the right move. Don't give any thought to a legitimate problem of a crazy woman attacking you for no reason.

I was blessed enough to an Intercontinental title match as well. This I was pumped for. Rowdy Roddy Piper, Mr. Perfect, Randy Savage, and Bret Hart are just some of the legends who have held the IC belt in the past. It is a prestigious title and surely worthy of notice for a title match. I better buckle myself in for.... CM Punk challenging William Regal? Really?

It's not funny.

Regal once again showed how uncouth Raw is by getting himself disqualified, thus saving his title. However, Stephanie McMahon then made the decision to have a rematch next week (tonight), and DQ will result in a title swap. Smart move, Steph. Clearly something that only would have come with previous GM experience. I'm just sayin'.

Now let's check out this Kelly Kelly Matt is so fond of. Well hello beautiful. And you are beautiful. You must be Kane's squeeze. No? Oh you're wrestling someone named Jillian Hall? Well I'll be. She's a tough cookie. Better learn to protect yourself, Double K.

Isn't it funny how the hottest diva on Raw gets her ass kicked (I know she won the match, but still, look at the picture I selected to use), and Smackdown's top girl is the most badass of them all?

As stated numerous times, Monday Night Raw is the wild west of wrestling. Even though Stephanie McMahon did not give into Orton/Jericho's complaints, she did alter the main event to appease them a little. Who's running this show, right? Regardless, our main event was a tag match, pitting Orton and Jericho against Shawn Michaels (which makes sense because they have beef) and JB.....not JBL? But he works for Michaels now? If not JBL then who?

TEH CHAMP?!!?!?11!?! JOHN CENA?!!? WHAT!? WHAT?!? WHAT?!?

FINALLY, Monday Night Raw is going to get good. John Cena and Shawn Michaels (ZOMG!) Look at this bad boy:

You're telling me, poorly spelled graphic I created!

Of course, there's an inherent conflict of interests in this match. JBL is going to wrestle John Cena for the title at the Royal Rumble in a few weeks. He also is paying Shawn Michaels to be his lackey. It would clearly be in JBL's best interests to have Shawn turn on John Cena. But will Shawn do it? On the one hand he needs to support his family, but on the other all these fans look up to HBK! What's he going do? I hope he doesn't superkick John Cena...

YES! They won! But what about JBL? He is going to be pissed about this. What's going to happen? Oh, there's a Cena vs Michaels match tonight? Just like that? Seriously, who's running this crapfest?

Way to sell the severity there, Johnny Cakes.

Put your NyQuil away, because you won't need it tonight. Punch your ticket to Sleepyville by tuning into USA, 9/8c!

R U READY TO DOWN SOME SMACK??? vol. 13

SEASON'S BEATINGS!

It's the first WWE event of the new year! Have the superstars of Smackdown made any resolutions? Of course they didn't! They're perfect in every way. Ever.

Last week's show started out with a pissed HHH. We know he was pissed because he came to the ring with a sledgehammer. Sledgehammer means pissed. Anyway, he calls out Vladimir Kozlov because HHH, being a Connecticut blue blood, HATES socialism in all it's forms (USA!). Kozlov wisely decides to not come to the ring due to said sledgehammer. But you know who wasn't very smart? You guessed it, Chavo Guerrero!

Well the two of them talk things out rationally like adults and....wait a second! That didn't happen! No, what really happened was GM Vickie Guerrero came out and made a match between the two of them. Why she put her nephew in a match with a 10 time world champion (plus a weapon) is beyond me, but I think it's clear to all of us that Vickie somehow blames Chavo for her current marital status. That's right, he introduced her to Edge!

So they had their match when this happened:

"Hurm...Randy is better..."

And then HHH really took over and this happened:

Not pictured: the resting spot for that hammer.

Our WWE tag title feud continued once again with a singles match. Let's take a look at the competitors.

Advantage: Carlito.

In other Smackdown title news, Shelton Benjamin successfully defended his US title against Hurricane Helms. However, far more importantly, Helms is losing his grip on his Seal of Awesomness. No more Hurrapops. Long, stupid hair. Back tat. And offense like this:

Shape up or ship out, sailor!

I'm going to keep this quick. MVP must be a giant Detroit Lions fan. I'm just sayin'.

And what of our WWE champion, Jeff Hardy? Well, his ONE rule is that he's going to keep it clean in the new year. So he might go through a few night terrors or something, as he hallucinates a fight with a giant every now and then.

Oh right. We're being nice now. Well, for the second straight week Jeff Hardy DID NOT defend his new WWE title against a much bigger opponent. This time, the Big Show! And he's a formidable opponent, having lost many high profile matches against the Undertaker in the recent weeks.

So Show was was too big for The Clown Prince of Wresslin', as he even was able to kick out of the Swanton Bomb! But is he too big to kick out of a count out?

You see, cause he's got so much excess skin on account of being fat. Get it?

Finally, some sad news here around the Smackdown galaxy. Michelle McCool lost her Divas Title. I know, but it totally wasn't her fault. For some reason they decided to have an inexperienced referee like Maria officiate a title match. Why? That makes no sense. So Maryse was able to capitalize on this poor judgement by Vickie Guerreo and abscond away with Michelle's strap. And Michelle didn't take it too well.

The stuff of dreams

Still, I think she was a justified, if not a bit exxxtreme. I'm sorry baby. I feel your pain.

Now go McC(.)(.)k me some dinner!

Smackdown comes to you live (on tape) from my home state of New Jersey tonight! Tune your smellavision to MyNetwork TV, 8/7c!

R U READY TO DOWN SOME SMACK vol. 10

SEASONS BEATINGS!

Did you guys know there's a pay-per-view this Sunday? Armageddon? Yup, it's Christmas come early as the WWE presents us THE END OF THE MOTHER FUNKIN' WORLD! Can you handle that, bitches?

Well the forever wise GM Vickie Guerrero has decided to put all three competitors in the PPV title match in action that night. That seems fair. First up, her husband and WWE Champion Edge was in singles action against a cagey veteran....Kung Fu Naki!

Wait, Kung Fu Naki? LAME. He won't...oh my...can he pull this off?!

Fill in your own vowels

She also put team BFF Jeff "Smiles" Hardy and HHH in action against the former Edgeheads, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder (who?). This should be a cake walk, as the two amigos have worked together before and-

Well thank God they got past this small scuffle. At least they won the match...wait. No! No! How can Vickie Guerrero make them wrestle another match, this time against John Morrison and The Miz! That's not fair! It's like she's purposefully tiring out HHH and Jeff 10 days before their big title match! Boo! Well, at least this will give Jeff and Hunter a chance to work out their problems and-

A countout loss? Seriously. Who even keeps count anymore?

"Don't talk like one of them. You're not. Even if you'd like to be."

In other Smackdown news, Maria somehow beat our beloved Divas champ, Michelle McCool. McCool missed a kick and Maria rolled her up for the non-title win.

I would like to have sex with both of these women.

Of course, Michelle is a fierce competitor and does not like losing matches, so Maria got a kick in the (perfectly flat and taut) gut of hers. Serves her right for making Michelle angry.

.... on line one for Adam

All those times MVP parked in handicapped spaces must have caught up to the man, because he hasn't won a match in ages! His losing streak caused him to lose his superstar tunnel and pyro in his entrance. That may be the second most awesome contract clause short of the World Champion getting a live Motorhead entrance at Wrestlemania.

Who will get the win this week? None other then the returning Hurricane Helms. We may have been been a little premature giving him that Seal of Awesomness, because he came back with a butt-rock mane of hair and a giant back tattoo. Oh well, we'll reserve judgement for a few more weeks.

Nightmare on Helms Street

Finally, Big Show and Undertaker in a steel cage. This shits bout to get real. This is the only logical conclusion to their storied feud of four months, as these two animals need to be locked up to finally settle things. Only three ways to win this match, pin, submission, or exiting the cage. This is going to be intense.

These two have had some slobberknockers, let me tell you. I don't think anyone has any quit. The only way this is ending is if someone is too cowardly to fight on and has to run away. What? That didn't happen? Big Show tapped out in the middle of the ring? Then what was the point of the stupid cage to begin with?

Smackdown has no less then one match on the PPV this Sunday! And it's for the title! Don't miss the tremendous buildup for the one match! Maybe we'll get lucky and Shelton Benjamin will job to Jeff in a tag match! 8/7c on the last place broadcast network, MyNetwork TV!
