Who hits the Hitman?

There's no point in dancing around it. Why bother to find a hyperlink? EVERYONE is talking about it, feverishly waiting for our take on this. Seriously. All of our non-wrestling friends (that is to say, all our friends) have sent us the link about it. Bret Hart is coming back to WWE.

Nothing but gray hair and blue suits

True, it's supposedly only from January to about Wrestlemania, but this is some pretty big news. The Hitman, back home in WWE! And not just for some stupid DVD that he worked on to change protect his legacy or to accept a Hall of Fame induction into a non-physical Hall of Fame. And no, it won't just be as a video game legend or to promote the soft cover version of his memoir. He's actually coming back to entertain the fans.

Now, we've never been ones to hide our feelings about the Excellence of SeExecution. Click that little Bret Hart tag on the right side of the blog if you need a refresher. Still, don't think we're surprised at this latest bit of hypocrisy by Mr. Hart.

First, it's no secret that Mr. Hart takes himself and his legacy rather seriously. We think he needs to lighten up a bit, but it's his prerogative. So you can understand how we're scratching our heads a bit when in the past he has said that he would never come back. Or how he has said that he would never want to tarnish the injustice (our word/emphasis) that he perceives was bestowed upon him by making an angle out of it. There's too much money to be lost if they don't go that route with Bret. Sure, WWE has left lots of money on the table before, but this one seems like a no-brainer by even WWE standards. Of course, we've been wrong before, like with our excitement for the film Watchmen.

Second, the entire point of his memoir was to close his wrestling career. From wikipedia (citation needed):

"I'd be happy being remembered for really brilliant storytelling in my matches, not for some last chance to snap up some money," Hart said. "I respectfully understand my light in wrestling is fading. I can live with that...

...But I couldn't say goodbye to my wrestling character until I finished" (the book).
Which is it, Bret? When will you officially be done? Because we haven't been this exhausted waiting for a climax since we saw Watchmen.

Listen, we understand that Mr. Hart is doing this for some cash. That's totally fair. There is a lot of money to be made in a Vince/Bret Wrestlemania feud, even if one is a senior citizen and the other is physically unable to take any bumps. Also, the heat on this feud is fading every day, especially because more and more of the current crop of fans might not even know who Bret Hart is. Think about this for a second. We were in middle school (!) for the Montreal Screwjob. So please, make some money.

However, don't act like you're above the money, Mr Hart. Don't go on the record about how you'll never forgive Shawn Michaels for his role in your exile and act like this is a real life tragedy. Because honestly, it just leads to your overall stature diminishing more and more. If we were Bret Hart fans we'd feel more betrayed than how we felt when Zack Snyder replaced the giant telepathic Cthulu with a Dr. Manhattan fart bomb in Watchmen.

Again, we don't begrudge Bret for taking some cash. There really isn't much else he can do with his skill set, especially giving his handicap. We just know that he is going to insult our intelligence when the next few months of interviews will be about "burying the hatchet" or about how he "owed this to his fans." Because it's not. It's about a pay day to cover his impending divorce. We haven't felt this embarrassed for someone since we saw Malin Akerman's and Carla Gugino's "acting" in Watchmen.

Speaking of embarrassment, this also reminds us a lot of another wrestler who is hanging around for paydays to cover his divorce costs. We'll give you one guess.

Yes, this is eerily reminiscent of Ric Flair. That may be an unfair comparison to make (after all, they are ultimately different people and Bret should not be responsible for Ric's faults and vice verse), but it really isn't. After all, who did the autograph signing tours for a while? Both of them did. Who decided to work with Ring of Honor doing some meet and greet and in-ring segments with the talent? Both of them. And they both have the same motivations for overstaying their welcomes.

Now, this wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for Bret's legendary heat with Ric. From page 273 of his autobiography:

"Flair was what my dad called a 'routine man,' because he did the same match ever night no matter who he worked with. He also liked to call ever step of the match with little input from me."

"For a guy nearing fifty he was in great shape. Ric took his usual bumps and cut a blistering pace. When we talked before the match, he has suggested a finish that called for me to do a flying tackle where he'd catch me and stagger backward with the two of us toppling over the top rope, only to be counted out for the finish, which would be a double DQ. It was a simple move that I'd done countless times with less-skilled wrestlers, but at the end of the match, when I dove in Flair, he stood too far from the ropes, mistimed it, and didn't have the strength to catch me, so we fell down in a heap! On the spot Ric came up with a makeshift finish that, not surprisingly, benefited him and not me. I wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, but back in the dressing room, I was annoyed to hear Flair crying to me about what happened on the finish, implying that I had screwed up. He showed me, right there, that he wasn't as great as he was supposed to be. I'd heard there were a lot of wrestlers who didn't trust or like Flair, and I was starting to see why."

First order of business there: too many run on sentences there. Next time don't edit your own book. Or at least hire an editor who isn't a stroke victim.

Second, is the irony not lost on Bret here? These are his words regarding his respect for Ric Flair. These men are peas and carrots! And he has the gall to insult Flair's character? We haven't shook our heads this much since we listened to Zack Snyder's soundtrack choices for the film Watchmen!

In summation, is it cool Bret Hart is coming back to WWE? Yes, it is. This has been a long time coming and honestly, it's too stupid to hold a grudge over a wrestling angle. But we can't believe it will be good. Will he even interact with Shawn in any meaningful matter? Is there any point in hiring an on-screen character that can't take bumps, ergo, not lose any heat? Would Bret even be willing to give heat?

Also, the mere fact that WWE is pulling out this big gun to run opposite TNA's live Monday night show means that no matter what number TNA pulls, they got the big show scared. Now lets hope they don't screw up this opportunity like Zack Snyder did with Watchmen.

W.W.W. featuring Vince McMahon and The George Michael Sports Machine

SeAsOn's BeAtInGs!

On Wednesdays, we here at LOL, Wresslin' like to really pull out the stops and offer up a double shot of righteously killer content. Why Wednesday? Well, we could impress you with market research, work habit studies, and human psychology tendencies to show you there's a scientific reason the middle of the week is the best time to bring your A-game. However, truth be told, we don't have any of that stuff and settled on Wednesday because that was the only day that didn't have any content scheduled.

So, here you have "Watch Wresslin' Wednesdays," the ORIGINAL wrestling-themed, YouTube video comedic co-commentary. Please feel free to suggest a better title, because we are woefully uncreative when it comes to naming stuff.

The idea of W.W.W. is we each send the other a video that is related to wrestling (a match, promo, interview, guest starring spot, etc.). The only restriction is that it cannot be user-created, so your video superimposing Elin Woods's head on a golf club yielding Bill Goldberg ain't going to fly here, pal. Neither of us know what kind of video we're going to get that day.

After viewing, we each write a response. This could be anything we choose: a straight commentary, a philosophical enlightenment, or classless ridicule. Just as we don't know what kind of video the other will select, neither do we know what the other will write or how they will write it. What you end up with is a mash-up of styles, which in our book equates to two-blogs-in-one, and we can take the rest of the day off.

Adam's video to Matt - Wrestling fan confront Mr. McMahon in the ring

Matt's response...

Woooooo!!! Nassau!!! Long Island, baaabaaay! Hey bro, I'm grabbing another Blue Point. Refill?

(sounds of car crashing)

Oh shit! What happened? Who wrecked? Bro! Who wrecked??

(Mick Foley appears on stage)

MIIIIIICCCCKKKKK!!!! FOLLLLLLLLAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!! LONG ISLAND, BAAAAAYYYBAYYYY!!!

Ok, forget it. I'm staying here. Gotta hear what Mick has to say.

(Mick Foley makes a mess of himself in the ring)

YEAAAAHHHHH!!! That's my man! He's just like us, bro. Can you believe it? Wanna jump off the duplex when we get back?

(Vince McMahon enters the arena)

Seriously?? SERIOUSLY?! This douchebag? What does he have to say that I care about? Let Foley finish, you rich douche.

Hey bro, hold this. I'm gonna teach this guy a lesson.

What's that? No, I'm not hammered, bro. I'm cool. I'm just tell this guy what's up is all. He needs to know he can't just walk in here like he owns the place. This is Nassau, son!

Huh? Bro, cool it. I know how much these seats cost. They aren't going to do anything to me, bro. I'm just going to talk to him. Not slug the guy. Cool it.

(dude jumps over barrier and runs to the ring)

Hey, Vince! Hey, Vinny! Look at me, Vinny! You lookin'?? Listen. YOU SUCK! SUCK A FAT ONE, VINNY! YOOOOOOUUUU SUUCCCK!!

(security grabs the dude)

Yo yo yo, free speech, brotha, free speech! This is a free country, kid. Hands off or I'm callin' my uncle. He's a lawyer, you know (tm). YOU SUUUUUCCK, VINCE!!!! KISS MY ASS, VINNY!!!

Save my beer, bro!!!

(Vince McMahon refers to the dude while talking to Mick)

I LOVE YOU, VINCE!

THE MOST INCREDIBLE THING IN THE HISTORY OF LIFE

Holy crap, did you hear??! Hulk Hogan got cut open during a brawl with Ric Flair as they were promoting their upcoming tour of Australia!

See!

According to reports, Hogan and Flair were conducting a press conference when things got heated and Ric Flair up and slapped Hogan right in the face!!

There's even a video! This is amazing! Please stop whatever you are doing (which, presumably is reading this blog) and watch this right now!!!

Things turned sour when two traded barbs over their failed marriages. Ooooh, low blows, gentlemen! That would piss anyone off, but with the likes of combustible elements like Hogan, who just went through a nasty divorce, and Flair, who's working on his fourth divorce, that's a little below the belt!

Hogan was left a bloody heap, but luckily Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs was there to help his friend to safety!!

The religious analogy is apparent and true.

Media outlets like TMZ and the Australian News have covered the fight, so it has to be true! What could this mean for the future of the tour?? Is Hogan going to be able to wrestle? And if so, what does that mean for Flair? Hogan's going to have a lot of anger built up by the time of their match, so he's going to come out swinging for sure! This is definitely going to be a slobber-knocker, as they say!

Let's not forget that since this was not a sanctioned fight, Flair could be charged with assault! What might that mean??! Will he even be able to make it to the match?! He has enough legal trouble as it is; can he handle the stress of more?!! How would a lengthy trial affect his new bride?! These are all things that could happen, people!

It's easy for so many of you to look at this and say, "Oh, those Laugh Twins are having a lark about the whole thing," but we don't think you understand the seriousness of what just happened! This isn't fake! This happened during a press conference and not in the ring, so these two have real animosity toward each other and that's something that cannot be ignored! You're foolish if you think that doesn't matter!!

We, for two, will be keenly tuned in to the goings-on down in Australia to make sure one of these warriors doesn't leave in a body bag!!! Keep with us for updates!!

Wresslin' Media Roundup!

Professional wrestling sure is busy lately! We'd like to take credit for that. If we never published out LOLies a while back, both WWE and TNA would have no idea what to do. But since we did the shows have been packed. Whether it was our Wrestlers of the Year going one on one or our two Saddest Wrestlers preparing to go at it, it is undeniable that it's a good time be a wrestling fan.

However, there are times when there's too much going on. It's impossible to narrow it down to one topic. This is one of those times. Thus, we present to you the goings on of the entire wrestling world, albeit this time in some more unconventional places.

Television

Ask the Laugh Twins what their favorite television show is and you'd get some diverse answers. Sure, Raw and Smackdown are there, but the Twins interests extend beyond sweaty men. Well not really, because we also love 24 and Lost! However, one of our other favorite shows is a little gem on the FX network known as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

For those not in the know, allow us to drop some 411 on you. Basically, imagine Seinfeld if it took place in Philadelphia, involved more depraved people, things happen, and is funny. You got IASiP. Anyway, last week's episode involved wrestling! The whole episode isn't on hulu yet (it will be Friday). Even so, it'll only be up for a small amount of time. Thus, check out this preview.

Yes, that was Danny Devito eating garbage. And yes, that was Rowdy Roddy Piper playing a wrestler.

Now normally, we Laugh Twins take immense glee in repeating jokes and passing them off as our own, but this is too special. For 30 minutes the entire episode delivers. Every joke hits. They nail wrestling culture very well. And they compare Hulk Hogan "to that of a Chinese man." Check it out if you haven't already.

Radio

The Allegeded LOLoCast still rules. Wrestlegasm also did some audio post which was really good when she put us over.

Internet

Well Ric Flair made us cry when he cut this ridiculous promo:

Elsewhere, LOL, Wresslin' continues to dominate every week day with the most beau coup of all wrestling comedy. Also, Shad Gaspard told Twitter he had swine flu, once again proving that Twitter is stupid (follow us!).

Film

WWE Films is planning on making an Undertaker origin story. Really.

Video Games

Smackdown vs Raw 2010 came out and is being heralded as the best Smackdown yet. In addition to a roster that includes both Christian and The Brian Kendrick, SvR2k10 boasts the most robust creation mode ever. In addition to old stand bys like create a wrestler and create a finisher, this year's edition has create a storyline. Basically, it's time to put your booking to the test! And to top it off, you can upload it to the the game servers and trade with other players (SiC's and all!).

So although awesome, there are still a few gripes we'd like ironed out. Listen (read?) up, THQ. Here's some consulting, pro boner (heheh) from the LT's!

  • Include Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper- This should be a no brainer.
  • In addition to the usual in-game Internet, include comedy blogs as well. And if you think you're going to get away with having a LAWL, Wrestling! then think again when our lawyer calls.
  • Still need to tweek Create A Wrestler. As dictated in the Bragging Rights Bet, Matt must create Adam and play as him online. As we write this, Matt is having trouble accurately depicting Adam. He needs to look like:

Like this, but more handsome

And...

Like this, but sweeter.

  • More realistic breast physics. Like this.
  • Have there be penalties for wrestler's blading, like in real life! Maybe if both wrestlers get cut open and one of them happens to be William Regal there will be a SMALL chance of the other wrestler contracting HIV.
  • More people should scream "TEH ANIMALE! GUNZ!" when Batista comes to the ring
Come on guys! It'd be easy to make all this happen! But no, all you care about is your stupid money and not the fans! ARGH!

WOOOOO! Support North Carolina education!

If there's one thing we love at LOL, Wresslin', it's wrestling, we suppose. If there are two things we love, it's wrestling and booze. If there are three things, go ahead and add fornicatin' to that list. But somewhere on there, it's our nation's youth.

We believe strongly in a good education for all children. You can't possibly be a great internet comedy writer without it. (On second thought, we don't need the competition. But you can't be a good doctor without it either, and God knows we'll need one when our hearts stop from too much fried food.) Education truly is fundamental to a good life, and all kids deserve that, right?

Well, some of our schools are failing the children coming to their hallowed halls of learning. Take North Carolina, for instance. North Carolina schools had the 11th worst graduation rate among the 50 states in 2008. That's just not acceptable! We want them to be number one! Which is why we're supporting any effort to boost education in North Carolina, such as...

Yes, Ric Flair has a lottery ticket. Not the "Woo" ticket like some were misinformed. It's the "WOOOOOOO!" scratch-off lottery game that supports North Carolina education! Never so much have we wanted to be Tar Heels.

To us, North Carolina is that fantasy land where there's always a massive steak on your grill and the Nature Boy has an entrance in your local convenience store somewhere between the Butterfingers and the Utz potato chips. Naturally, not everyone that lives there appreciates these things like the rest of us do. Take this grandma in the video. She's clearly not hip to what's good in North Carolina, even though Naitch wins her over in the end.

These things are so amazing, people have made YouTube videos celebrating the moment they scratched one off!

Even though you won ten dollars, you're still a loser in our book, but thanks for trying. Also, thanks for the tip that "WOO!" is a trademark of the World Wide Wrestling Entertainment Corporation, Inc. We hope we don't get sued!

Honestly, though, who better to support the youth of North Carolina than Ric Flair? We can't think of a better person.

Errr, um well....

To cap this off with some good news, some wrestling fan has already won the big prize! Frankie Shirley, even though your name is dumb, we salute you! Now don't spend all that money in one place, like WWEShop.com.

W.W.W. featuring Ric Flair and Sam Roberts

The idea of W.W.W. is we each send the other a video that is related to wrestling (a match, promo, interview, guest starring spot, etc.). The only restriction is that it cannot be user-created, so your armpit fart medley of Dean Malenko themes a'int going to fly here, pal. Matt's video to Adam- Ric Flair reveals shocking photos of him with Miss Elizabeth!

Adam's response...

The first thing everyone notices about a professional wrestler is his entrance music. We've written about this many times. The Nature Boy Ric Flair has had Stauss's (correct grammar) "Also Sprach Zarathustra" for almost his entire career. It's almost as important to his entire being just as much as the stylin', profilin' and figure-four's are. I say "almost" because honestly, Slick Ric could have had this and just been fine. Why? Because it's accurate and true.

Unlike you, Flair's been around the world. And also unlike you, he's been with many, many girls.

Which makes this storyline involving Randy Savage and his blushing bride Elizabeth so wonderful. Sure, anytime a man insinuates he's mowing another man's lawn it's serious. But this is Randy and Elizabeth! The same Randy who was so possessive of her beauty that he'd lock her in a closet at the arena so as other men wouldn't flirt with her. So when Naitch unleashes his master plan, well, let's just say shits gonna get reeeeeeeelllll.

"OOOO yeaaaa! I don't trust my co-workers or wife! Dig it!"

And what is this plan? Why, to show off a copy of an upcoming WWF magazine. Or as Flair calls it, "more than just a magazine" even though it isn't. On the cover, some poorly laid out stock photographs. Inside? Slick Ric shows off some shots from his personal collection. He uses these photos as the basis for his insight into Elizabeth's mindset (which he chooses to describe using language only a third rate romance novel would use.)

Now as for the photograph. For a candid photo between two people together at the time, it sure has a lot of professional sheen on it. Seriously, who poses for photos like that? Did he someday know she'd marry Savage and he'd be facing him for the World Title at Wrestlemania VIII?

Now for a legendary cooze hound like Flair, he sure is inconsistent with his put down. Telling someone that so-and-so is your sloppy seconds is the best diss ever (and apparently, can get you suspended for half an NHL season), but then coming back and saying how he'll take her back whenever? Attraction doesn't work that way, Naitch. You can't call another man's wife trash and then offer to give her a ride on Space Mountain anytime she likes.

Of course, I'm still single, so what do I know?

And johnnyfairbanks, nice job cutting the video off at the climax, shitdick.

Adam's video to Matt - Prime Time Sam Roberts interviews Wrestlemania 25 superstars

Matt's response...

Hey Adam, what's the haps?

Or is it happs? I'm going to have to consult "Being a Douchebag" on that one.

Obviously, my first instinct is to rip on the guy for that bit, but I'll let it go. Interesting the first person whom they showed catch on to it was Mark Henry, or as YouTube user "FartScrap" called him, the "big shadow in the tan suit." It was a funny enough way to start the segment, I suppose.

Not being an "Opie and Anthony" mark like Adam is, I'm not familiar with Prime Time Sam Roberts. He's alright though, and the wrestlers seem to like him well enough. Anytime you can have a light-hearted and congenial conversation with Trips about Vince McMahon's death, you must be a decent guy. That was his father-in-law, after all.

After his silly bit, he actually has some interesting questions for these guys. I particularly enjoyed him asking Roddy Piper about Hell Comes to Frogtown, seeing as how I'm one of the hundred people in America that own that movie.

Proof.

Piper's response of "we have an asshole here" is such wonderful "Piperness" also.

As is Flair's declaration that they don't have the word "not succeed" in their vocabulary.

I'm not finding it in mine either...

I guess I can rate the interviewees on how interesting they were during their interview. Now, sometimes that's unfair, because a subject can only be as good as their interviewer allows them to be, but a lot can be said for exuding a certain kind of presence that shines through no matter what.

6. Eve and Kelly Kelly
I'm not sure if this is part of the reason why Adam sent me this, but let me make it clear to him that I don't like Kelly Kelly for the way she answers questions. Seriously, could these two be any more boring? At least Mickie James would have offered you some squirrel jerky or something.

5. Edge
Controversial pick? I don't think so. Edge never impressed me all that much with his personality to begin with, and he doesn't pick up any points here. Don't be political! Say that it was gross to kiss Vickie! We all know it!

Seriously dude. WE ALL KNOW.

4. Mark Henry
This is where it starts getting close, because I really liked Mark Henry here. Ok, so he had the most generic answer in world when asked about Wrestlemania 25, but he made up for it talking about hair later on. And really, who doesn't want to hear Mark talk for long periods of time? Don't count me in that group!

3. Chris Jericho
It's nice to see Jericho out of character for a bit here. Really, there's nothing more to it than that. And they talk about big words.

That one I can find.

2. Roddy Piper and Ric Flair
It's hard not to pick these two as the best, but they seemed a little off. Maybe they just weren't in the mood to answer questions, or didn't feel like playing around. I can understand that; these two are legends and now some diphead is asking them "What's the happs?" They don't have time for that. Of course, it's funny when they talk about Hell Comes to Frogtown, and even funnier when Naitch reveals that he's never seen it. Very supportive of you, Flair.

1. Triple H
It's no secret that I'm a Triple H fan. Call me a front-runner if you will, but it's not just because he wins all the time. Actually, it's not about that at all. I always like his personality during interviews and he just seems to have a good time, which is certainly the case here. Obviously these two have a bit of a history, and it's fun to seem the play off that. But mainly I just like to see the Cerebral Assassin not assassinating people. I actually stayed up to watch him on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," if that tells you anything. Worth viewing, if only for The Roots playing "King of Kings."

Matt's video to Adam- The Godfather Crashng (sic) WWE Wedding

Adam's response...

Do you need more proof that WWE is its own planet? Look no further then their treatment of weddings. Weddings on earth-53 take about...three weeks to prepare. And they occur after about a solid...seven weeks of dating. And they always happen in the arena, in the middle of the ring. Think about that for a second. WWE is a nationally touring company that books their shows many months in advance. Yet somehow, they can make the arraignments to usurp television/event time to hold a private ceremony? Money, let alone logistics, must be insane to make that happen! Even with an employee discount!

About the actual wedding; it's always the main event of the show. As it should be. But is it really the best thing for this, the most sanctimonious of days? People were bleeding and sweating in that thing literally twenty minutes before the ceremony! And how come there is hardly any friends and family there? Just other wrestlers! And how do they determine which side the guests sit on if everyone is all a coworker!? And they're all dressed like crap! Boys, this is a wedding, not some club. Wear a suit. Now, a tux may be a bit too formal if you're not in the party, but you can wear a tie at least. It's a little sad when The Godfather is the most appropriately dressed for this function.

A baseball cap, Trevor? Really?

I know it's usually fine for a military man to wear his officer's uniform to formal events, but somehow I don't think "camo tee shirt" is acceptable.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan's 2X4 is better dressed more appropriately than you are, Kenny Dykstra.

I'll give Hornswaggle a pass. He's wearing a jacket and vest, and I imagine finding clothes is hard for him.

Clearly, this is every little girl's dream wedding. It's like she's a princess!

The next step is for the Godfather to come out just when the reverend was going to wed the happy couple. Perfect timing, almost as if it was planned for full dramatic effect. Many men rejoiced at the sound of his familiar Wah pedal.

Side note: We may have another fantastic exchange to accompany "Hold my money, Kanyon." JBL is doing his best Jerry Lawler impression when The Godfather comes out. Michael Cole is playing the straight man (kinda) in their pairing, and says "How many times have you been divorced." JBL's immediate reply? "Several." Brilliant in it simplicity, simple in its elegance, elegant in its brilliance.

Now for those not familiar with The Godfather, he was a pretty hot character in the late 90's during the "Attitude" era. In case watching the video left too much subtly, he was essentially portraying a pimp. As a pimp, he is forced to confront his old rival, Monogamy. So he offers an old, bald man the chance to pay for one night with a few "8's" over a lifetime of banging this and having her make him a sandwich on occasion. Teddy Long isn't Smackdown GM for nothing, and wisely turns down the Godfather's offer. However, The Godfather is not done. He then offers the "Ho Train" to all the other male wrestler (who are totally straight). They rejoice.

"Yea, I knew being a wrestler would finally get us some sweet tang!"

Here's the problem. There are at least forty dudes here. Maybe five women. Not a lot to go around, fellas. But what's even better is how all the Divas (and female guests) are horrified by the behavior of The Godfather and his influence.

The one in blue is Brooke Adams. She was on ECW for a hot second and had the gimmick of "girl who is into The Miz" (a performance she should have won an Emmy for). Are you really so upset that some douchebag took part in douchebaggery? I used the finest research tools a my disposal, and I have to ask: is being around The Godfather more demeaning then placing in Miss Hawaiian Tropic and Miss Bikini USA model searches? Where the entire point is objectification of women? You know (tm) Brooke, they say people in glass houses...

Of course, this wouldn't be WWE if we didn't end on a hilarious joke. Gerald Brisco wants to join the Ho Train, but Pat Patterson holds him back? Why would he do that? Is Patterson some sort of gay?

Oh, he is? Really? He's actually an open homosexual who is also a high ranking official in an industry that presents that lifestyle in a negative aspect? He should actually be viewed as a model of courage. dignity, and class? His life story is interesting? Well you don't say...

Adam's video to Matt - Brian Pillman joins the Four Horseman

Matt's response...

Let me just say that it's always nice to see a little Tony Schiavone in a video. He doesn't really do much here, but he's still nice to have around; like an old dog that lays at your feet.

Here, however, I will focus on the three centerpieces of this video, in a little segment I call "Crazy, Crazier and Craziest."

Crazy - Arn Anderson

Now, you may think it a little odd to call Arn Anderson "crazy." After all, he keeps his stuff together and simply cuts a nice promo putting over the Horseman. Pretty simple, right? Well, for the sake of the bit, I couldn't call it "Somewhat Normal, Crazier and Craziest," so just go with me here.

You do need to question the mental capacity of someone that rides with the likes of these other two. Something must not be right up there. Also, Arn invokes "pure mathematics and the law of physics" in their victory over Sting. Tell me that's not at least a little crazy.

The Fourth Horseman.

Crazier - Brian Pillman

Judging by this video, some my disagree with not giving the ultimate crazy honors to Mr. Pillman, but honestly, who was going to unseat Flair? Aside from that, Flyin' Brian more than earns the title, and you can look at it more like a 1-A/1-B situation.

First, Pillman basically admits to conspiracy to commit murder, saying that Flair "cut Sting's throat" and then excidely describing the "carnage that ensued." No one seems that concerned that a man was killed in the middle of the ring, but I think this is something that should be investigated. We have a taped confession. This should be a slam-dunk.

Also, I can't prove this, but I think some gangs also call themselves a "dynasty," so that doesn't really explain that characterization away.

Finally, he does this:

This during Arn's time on the mic. I kind of feel bad for Arn, because this dude is crawling about the ring and acting a general fool.

However, he can't nearly equal our final entry for tonight...

Craziest - Ric Flair

Effectively the craziest person to ever have a wrestling microphone shoved in their face. Some may argue that title goes to Shawn Stasiak, New Jack or even the Ultimate Warrior. But there's a difference between "crazy" and "insane," at least for the purposes of this article.

Allow me to provide a transcript of his first moments on the mic:

ARN
And you know what that means...Tell 'em Naitch!

ARN and RIC clasp hands in a show of friendship and solidarity.

RIC
Speaks gibberish

RIC runs from one end of the ring to the other, strutting in between and forcing others out of the way.

Ric is so crazy, that he distracts Schiavone while he's interviewing Arn Anderson.

And, in the true mark of a crazy person, Ric fails to indicate where his similes end, inevitably leading me to believe that all of the Horsemen are in town, ready to "go to work" on every woman they meet. Though, I suppose that's not all that far fetched.

W.W.W. featuring Goldberg versus Ric Flair and The Spirit Squad with C.M. Punk

So, here you have "Watch Wresslin' Wednesdays." Please feel free to suggest a better title, because we are woefully uncreative when it comes to naming stuff.

Better at naming stuff than us.

The idea of W.W.W. is we each send the other a video that is related to wrestling (a match, promo, interview, guest starring spot, etc.). The only restriction is that it cannot be user-created, so your cover of Rick Derringer's "Real American" ain't gonna fly here, pal.

(Note: Adam is taking the week off, so our counter-part from across the pond, Ray of Wrestlegasm, is filling in this week.)

Ray's video to Matt - Goldberg confronts Flair's son

Matt's response...

First of all, nice going Ray. You're first stab at a W.W.W. and you pick a doozy (or is it "doozie" in the UK?). You pretty much hit all the right beats of a good video - insanity, violence against non-wrestlers, violence against family members, yelling, and Ric Flair. If I had a fake applause sound effect to play for you, I would.
The LOL, Wresslin' equivalent.

Alright, to the video. Let me just say that I happen to agree with Goldberg here. David Flair doesn't have any business anywhere near Goldberg. He certainly doesn't need to be poking him in the chest. That's just silly. Why would you do that, David? We all know Reid is the one with the drinking problem, so you can't use that a crutch.

But of course, I can't blame Ric Flair for coming to the rescue either. Really, anything to get Flair into the ring is fine by me, so beat up his kid all you want.

Flair has always been a curiosity to me. Let's just take a look at what happens in this video. He overacts. He takes ridiculous bumps. He rolls on the ground for no apparent reason. Ask yourself if you would take any other wrestler seriously if they pulled that kind of stuff. There's no way. No way. But Slick Ric has been doing it since the beginning of time, and we worship it.

I'm not standing on the outside criticizing either. I'm right there with you, cheering every ridiculous thing this man does. For instance, when Goldberg says that Ric has "stepped over the line" (which line?), Ric retorts, "I AM THE LINE!" and barrel rolls across the ring.

Goldberg = confused

What?? Why?? What sense does that make? Forget the physical stunting; what does "I am the line" mean? But for whatever reason, the first time I watched it, I said, "Shit yeah, Goldberg. Ric Flair is the line." That's how good he is.

Before that, he screamed into the mic "I'VE LOST MY MIND?!"

Well, when you put it like THAT

Now, I did a little extra work and watched the match that was set up at the end of this video. Let me tell you, Goldberg must have taken at least six shots to the crotch. Since it was Goldberg, you know that had to hurt.

His nickname in this movie was "Sledgehammer."

Goldberg ended up winning that match, but not by beating Ric, of course. No, about twenty guys in "nWo" shirts jumped him. This was WCW in 1999, after all.

Matt's video to Ray - The Spirit Squad trying to recruit CM Punk

Ray's response...

First of all, let me say how strange but particularly exciting it feels to be hanging out at the Texas branch of LOL Wresslin. I feel a little bit like I’m trespassing and am pretty sure I’ll open a door to have a bucket of water fall on my head or something. I was also wholly convinced that my video would be something odd and unfathomable, engineered to catch me out and leave me with nothing to say. Imagine my joy at finding a humorous CM Punk video in my email inbox.

I’m sure this was selected because of my over-the-top creepy crushing on CM Punk. But the first thing that grabbed my shoulders and shook me was Dolph Ziggler, or ‘Nicky’ as he was known while appearing as an enthusiastic member of The Spirit Squad. So he does know how to get a half decent hair-do after all? What an earth possessed him to stick his head in to a pan of toilet bleach?

Anyway, I have a confession to make. As a British girl whose interest in American culture has varied over the years from mild fascination to writing a full dissertation on Irish employment opportunities in Boston post-Potato Famine, cheerleading has always held a special place in my heart. When I was last in the US, I happened upon a high school basketball game and spent the entire match watching the cheerleaders in awe. Look…..

Their team was losing, so they ate pizza and talked to boys.

So, when I saw Ziggler and Co. were trying to recruit CM Punk my mental video library of trash movies went in to overdrive, flicked through the rolodex and found itself at Bring it On. One of the greatest movies to ever be shot. If you’re not familiar, Kirsten Dunst and her team of guys and gals realise that their long-running success at the Cheerleading National Championships is solely down to the fact that their previous captain was stealing routines from the less financially viable ghetto school, East Compton. I won’t tell you any more in case I ruin the story for you. I can tell you’re just dying to run out and buy a copy.

But I will tell you why I’m harping on about this film. There’s a scene towards the beginning where Kirsten Dunst and her team are recruiting for a new member and I was reminded of it while watching this. CM Punk IS Eliza Dushku. Yep. It’s true!

They both rub off their tattoos:

They both have the same look of horror on their faces that this peppy, perky world of cheer begins to permeate their hard exterior.

They both pretend to be overly excited about getting to wear matchy-matchy cheer outfits when actually the idea repulses them.

They are both the cruel victims of ‘Spirit Fingers.'

Of course, the glaring difference between Punk and Eliza is that Eliza’s character joins the squad, helps to unite the group and despite never fully losing her feisty exterior, she crosses over to the pep side and gets a new BFF in Kirsten Dunst.

Punk, on the other hand, continues to go through the world alone, without a friend to call his own. But oh, how sweet would it have been if he had taken up their offer? To quote a line from my other favourite piece of cinematic baloney (Mean Girls) “….it’s like watching a dog walk on its hind legs.” It seems so wrong, and yet, you cannot take your eyes away. It’s ok, Punky. Ray will be your friend. And no pom-poms will be put in to operation. (Unless specifically requested.)
